The
Centre for Agrarian Relations and Rural Labour was initiated with a view
to address and enhance the understanding of the changing agrarian
relations and its impact on rural labour.
The
Centre undertakes specialised research pertaining to agrarian relations
and rural labour. The research activities of the
Centre focuses on themes like:Emerging Agrarian
Relations; Organising Labour and Social Security
for Agricultural Labour.
The
research projects to be conducted during the period 2002-2004 would focus
on the following core themes:

Globalisation
and its impact on rural labour.

Macro
trends and patterns of changing structure of rural labour markets.

Documentation,
evaluation and dissemination of organising strategies.
-
Social
security and rural labour.
The current research agenda of the centre
addresses concerns like:

Examining the efficacy of experiences on organizing unorganised
Labour by agencies/institutions with a view to identify the critical
factors that contribute to their sustainability and adaptability. The
different agencies/institutions to be studied may include:

the growth and differentiation of peasantry since 1980 in terms of:

Changes
in land holding and land use pattern

Credit
and other input facilities

Changing
tenurial systems and employment relations

Studying
the effectiveness of co-operativisation on rural labour.

Undertaking
action research for organising labour for economic activities

Assessing
the potential of rural non-farm employment sector.

the trends in wages, employment and poverty in rural areas.

Assessing
the efficacy of the existing social security systems for
agricultural labour.

examine the social security mechanisms at work in the rural sector.
