Centre for North-East Research and Training

 

A specialized research centre on the North-Eastern Region (NER) was set up in the Institute to address key issues relating to labour and employment in the NER. A little over three and half percent of India's labour force are concentrated in the north east region of the country. This necessitates especial attention to this region. Keeping this in view, the research and training centres for NER have been set up in the Institute

 

North-East Research Centre

 

The major objective of the research centre is to carry out policy oriented research on labour and employment which would facilitate development of an employment generation strategy for the overall development of the NER. Apart from in-house faculty, the centre seeks to undertake its activities in close collaboration with leading research institutes/organizations/ universities and well-known academicians of the country specialized in issues related to NER.

  • Employment Expansion: Role and Potential of Tourism, Handicrafts and Cottage Industries and Plantation sector

  • Youth Unemployment Issues in NER

  • Critical review of Social Security Measures including NREGA & Other Government Initiatives in NER

  • “Course on Research Methods in Labour Studies for North Eastern States”, held on 17th to 21st August, 2010 in North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong.
