December 5, 2003

A lecture on "Violence & Globalisation" was delivered by Dr. Imbersat Ali Daudi, Urologist, Maines, USA on 5.12.2003.

A lecture on "Gender Indicators and Globalisation" was delivered by Dr. Swapua Mukhopadayay, Coordinator, Gender Network Project, ISSI.

 

November 27-28, 2003

A two-day National Workshop was organised in collaboration with INDUS project of the ILO on November 27-28, 2003.  The objective of the Workshop was to invite ideas for the development and deployment of a beneficiary tracking system as well as child labour monitoring system. The Workshop was attended by representatives from Central and State Government departments concerned with the project.

 

November 11, 2003

A lecture was organised on "Globalisation and Labour-After Concun" on November 11, 2003 by Mr. Pradeep S. Mehta, Secretary General, Consumer Unity and Trust Society.

 

July 7-8, 2003

The Institute had jointly organized a National Workshop on Reducing HIV/AIDS Related Stigma and Discrimination in the World of Work in collaboration with ILO and Indian Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS, during July 7-8, 2003. The workshop was planned keeping in mind the need to strengthen the world of work response to HIV/AIDS with an emphasis on fighting stigma and discrimination. The workshop was looked upon to provide directions to draw a plan for initiating a policy at world of work through discussion with eminent personalities from various fields related to Health and Labour.

 

June  23-24, 2003

National Seminar on Employment and Industrial Relations in Power and Telecom Sector was held on June 23-24, 2003.  The Seminar was Inaugurated by the Union Labour Minister, Shri Sahib Singh Verma and Presided over by Shri Vinod Vaish, Secretary, Ministry of Power.  Vote of thanks was given by Shri Sunil Shastri, Member of Parliament.  The Seminar was organized in collaboration will Indian Industrial Relations Association. There were three technical sessions which were chaired by eminent persons and academicians and scholars were the discussants. The number of participants were 60.

 

May 23, 2003

A lecture by Ms. Archana Aggarwal from Hindu College was organised on "Pauperisation of Handloom Weavers in Banaras: An Oral History Documentation" on May 23, 2003 at the Institute.  The Lecture was based on the Study conducted by VVGNLI.

 

May 1, 2003

On the occasion of the International Labour Day (1 May, 2003), VVGNLI & Association of Labour Historians hold a Special Discussion on " Lost Words: Indian Labour and its Forgotten Histories" on recently published book on the tumultuous history of labour in Kanpur by Dr. Chitra Joshi of Delhi University, the discussion was chaired by Prof. S. Bhattacharya and the Discussants were Prof. Sumit Sarkar, Dr. Raman Mahaddavan & Dr. Satish Deshpande. 

 

April 25, 2003

Centre for Health & Labour organised a Round Table Meeting on "Policies & Programmes on Presentation of HIV/AIDS in the World of Labour" on 25th April, 2003 and was attended by a 5 members Mozambiquan Delegation headed by Mr. H. E. Mario, Lampiao Sevene, Minister of Labour, Mozambiquan in addition to various organisations and agencies working in this field.

 

April 16, 2003

A National Consultation on Child Labour Strategies: Gaps & Options was held on 16th April, 2003 & was attended by 16 persons.

 

April 6, 2003

(NRCCL) in collaboration with UNICEF organised a one day consultation on "Child Labour Strategies: Gaps & Options" on 6th April, 2003.  

 

April 22, 2003

A National Conference on Elimination of Child Labour was conducted at Vigyan Bhawan on 22nd April, 2003.  The National Resource Centre on Child Labour at the V. V. Giri National Labour Institute has provided technical support for conducting the conference at every stage by carrying out various activities including preparing the agenda, background material, programme kit and guidelines for technical sessions and reporteuring.  Dr. Najma Heptulla, Deputy Chairperson, Rajya Sabha inaugurated the conference and the inaugural function was presided over by Dr. Sahib Singh , Union Labour Minister.  Shri Vijay Goel, Minister of State for Labour also addressed the delegates.  Technical session on the topics Implementation Strategies Education and Elimination of Child Labour and Role of NGOs were held followed by the presentations from the select NCLP Districts and the consolidated presentation on the Performance of the National Child Labour Project.  Several suggestions and recommendation with regard to area specific strategies and role of various social partners and stake holders for implementing the project more effectively emerged out of the technical sessions of the conference.  This was attended by 150 persons ranging from NGO's to District Collectors to Govt. Officials to academicians.

A one day Workshop on Participation of Workers in Industry: TISCO Model was held on 10th April, 2003. ------. The workshop was attended by around 30 delegates representing the tripartite social patterns, viz., trade unions, employers and the Government..

A Lecture on "Child Labour: Future Challenges" by Dr. Neera Burra, Asstt. Resident Representative, UNSP was held on March 24, 2003.

A two day Workshop on Mainstreaming of Child Labour for NCLP Project Directors was held on February 27-28, 2003. It was a part of continuing activity concerning NCLPs.

February 18-19, 2003

A Tripartite meeting on the Report of Second National Commission on Labour was held on February 18-19, 2003 which was attended by 70 persons. The meeting was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Labour Minister Shri Sahib Singh Varma and presided over by the Labour Secretary, Shri P. D. Shenoy.  The Valedictory Address was given by the Additional Secretary, Shri Baleshwar Rai. This meeting was organized to make suggestions on the recommendations of the Commission for the consideration of the GOI.
