The training program on "Capacity Building Programme On Child Labour For Coordinators Of NSS" was designed to impart knowledge about various government schemes, programmes and projects regarding child labour in India and abroad, develop strategies to eliminate Child Labour and develop sensitivity towards child labour and impart knowledge about child labour legislation.

"Training Programme on Skill Development and Income Generation Efforts for Rural Self-sufficieny/Regeneration for the Officers of CBWE "was designed to provide information about the need to sensitise workers of informal sector to improve their skills,which would help to boost, self-confidence and provide knowledge about various income generation schemes so that rural workers could be better informed and emphasis that by achieving economic self-sufficiency, migration to urban centers could be reduced, resulting in quality of life and re-generation of rural economy at the base and make rural workers understand that national development depends on rural development and for this they should contribute their mite.

"The Training Workshop on Promoting Settlement of Industrial Disputes through Lok Adalats" was designed to provide an overview of the concept of Lok Adalats in the settlement of Industrial Disputes and discuss the law and procedure to be followed by Lok Adalats and find ways and means of promoting settlements through Lok  Adalats.

"The Training Programme on International Programme on Prevention of HIV/AIDS at the Workplace" was designed to Englishten the participants about the  magnitude of the HIV/AIDS problem and relevance of HIV/AIDS as an issue for the world of work, with a view to establish the rationale for intervention in the World of Work. Examine the inter linkage between various labour market issues such as informalisation, migration, gender aspects and HIV/AIDS. Upgrade the knowledge of the participants on STIs/HIV/AIDS and related issues. Examine the legal and ethical dimensions of HIV/AIDS in the World of Work and discuss ILO Code of Practice on HIV/AIDS and the World of Work. Share the experience and responses of various countries to HIV/AIDS, especially in relation to World of Work. Discuss various policies, programmes and strategies for care, support and rehabilitation of HIV/AIDS affected people. Enable the participants to appreciate their role evolve strategies for a wider participation of social partners in the effort towards the Prevention of HIV/AIDS in the World of Work.

The training Programme on "Training Programme On Labour Laws" was designed 

To develop awareness about the context of labour legislation and  labour jurisprudence, acquire  knowledge of procedural as well as substantive contents of Industrial Relations Laws i.e. I.D. Act, I.E. (S.O.) Act, Trade Unions Act and gain insight into the wage laws i.e. Minimum Wages Act, Payment of Wages Act, Equal Remuneration Act and the Payment of Bonus Act and develop understanding of the social security legislations like Workmen’s Compensation Act, Employees Pension Scheme 1995, and the Payment of  Gratuity  Act To understand the laws relating to Contract Labour.

The training Programme on " Effective Labour Law Enforcement for labour Enforcement Officers" was designed overall objective of the training programme was to enhance the capabilities of Labour Enforcement Officers and Inspectors to more effectively enforce the labour legislation, The specific objectives of this training was, to develop awareness about the context of labour legislation, acquaint them with the procedural as well as substantive contents of select labour laws, assist in optimum utilisation of resources at their disposal as well as in mobilisation of similar resources, provide necessary knowledge regarding new directions in labour laws and judicial interpretations, assist in identification of specific difficulties in effective enforcement of law and providing remedial measures and Imparting knowledge about Child Labour Legislation and its implementation.

The training Programme on "Course On Research Methods In  Labour Economics" was designed to discuss various concepts and theories on labour and labour economics and to give an overview of the labour scenario of the world in general and India in particular and discuss emerging issues in employment and labour in the context of globalisation and economic reforms and equip the participants with various research methods and techniques and apprise the participants of the sources of data on Labour and impart knowledge and skills for computer use in labour research.

from Urban Unorganised Sector" was designed to provide an overview of the issues relating to  urban unorganised sector, apprise the Industrial relations framework in the urban unorganised sector and the challenges before trade unions, create awareness on the relevant labour legislation, understand the role of trade unions in establishing labour  standards and promoting labour rights and build up capabilities for organising labour in the urban unorganised sector.

The training Programme on "Orientation Programme on Child Labour for Special School Teachers of NCLPs"  was designed to enlighten the participants on the Concept, Magnitude, Causes, Forms and  Consequences of child labour, understand the relation  between Child Labour and various aspects such as education, adult unemployment, poverty etc and Role of Teachers in the prevention and elimination of Child Labour.

The training Programme on "Sensitisation Programme on Child Labour for Officials  of NCLPs" was designed enhance awareness of social, economic and political situation in India and abroad in the context of child labour, impart knowledge on the various efforts initiated by the government, international organisations, NGOs etc. for eliminating child labour, understand the functioning of the National Child Labour Policy  and how it could eliminate child labour through proper implementation and develop strategies for  eliminating  child labour through the NCLPs.

The training Programme on "Sexual Harassment at the Workplace" was designed to sensitise the participants on the concept of Sexual Harassment at the Workplace, orient the participants on the international concerns for combating the problem, orient the participants on the Supreme Court Judgement on Sexual Harassment at the Workplace and strategies towards implementing the judgement, evolve effective mechanisms to address the issue and to integrate in into workplace and identify the role of trade unions in addressing the issue

The training programme "Capacity Builiding Programme on child Labour for trade Union Leaders had been designed to enhance the capacity of the members of the Trade Unions who may in turn become the resource persons to sensitize different sections of society.The programme was also expected to inculcate capacity within the participants to support the efforts of combating child labour and perform the task of imparting training effectively in order to have multiplier effect. The objective also was to enhance the motivational level, deep knowledge and understanding of the problem including the causes, consequences, different strategies, legislative measures and skills of designing and conducting training programmes.

The training programme 'Orientation Programme on Child Labour for NGOs from North Eastern States' is an efforts have to be made  to improve the relative efficiency of the various social partners involved in the elimination of the problem of child labour, more so in handling their role as change agents.  It was to this end that the  training programme for the NGOs of the North-East had been devised in order to provide relevant information and requisite skills to representatives of NGOs to enabled them in effectively tackle  the problem of child labour.

June 22 - July 10, 2004

V.V. Giri National Labour Institute, a premier Institute of Labour Research, invited applications from young Teachers in Universities and Colleges, University Scholars and Researchers from Research Institutions, Government Departments/Organisations, who wanted to pursue their research interest in labour studies, to participate in the next Course on Sociological Methods in Labour Research from June 22 - July 10, 2004 named "Course on Sociological Methods in Labour Research for University Teachers & Research Scholars". The Course offered opportunities to the social scientists from different disciplines to go through an interactive exercise in conceptualizing, designing and operationalising research pertaining to labour studies and opportunities for intensive interface with renowned scholars/practitioners in the area of labour studies. The Course admited 25 partcipants only. There was no programme fee for the Course and the selected participants was provided free boarding and lodging in the Institute’s campus.

A training programme "Sensitisation Programme On Child Labour for School Teachers of North-Eastern States" was organised. The programme was specifically designed  to focus the problem of child labour in North Eastern Region and aimed at bringing together the teaching community in order to work out strategies towards effective prevention and elimination of child labour.This  training programme has the following objectives:

  • To enhance awareness among participants on the  concept, magnitude,  causes, and consequences of Child Labour in North Eastern Region.

  • To understand relations among education, adult unemployment, poverty and child labour.

  • To generate awareness of the role of teachers in the process of prevention and elimination of child. labour.

  • To understand education as an  antidote for child labour problem.

In collaboration with International Labour Organisation and International Training Centre of ILO - a four day training workshop was organised on "Employment & Labour Market Policies" from February 23-27, 2004.  The workshop was Inaugurated by Dr. S. P. Gupta, Member, Planning Commission and Valedictory address was given by Shri Baleshwar Rai, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Labour.  The workshop provided a forum to deliberate on important issues related to labour market and employment policies in developing countries with special reference to India and was attended by 22 senior level functionaries representing different social partners. Institute's faculty and experts from  ILO, ITC, Turin acted as the key resource persons.

A lecture was delivered on February 17, 2004 by Mr. Kari Tapole, Executive Director, ILO, Geneva on "The Promotion of Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work Place - A Strategic ILO Objective". Dr. P. D. Shenoy, Secretary (Labour) presided over the funcion.

A workshop on "Beedi Workers Welfare Fund" Was held on 28.1.2004 to examine various aspects of operation of the fund.  It is hoped it will lead to formulating policy & strategy to enhance the performance level of the fund.
