market issues such as informalisation, migration, gender aspects and
HIV/AIDS. Upgrade the knowledge of the participants on STIs/HIV/AIDS
and related issues. Examine the legal and ethical dimensions of
HIV/AIDS in the World of Work and discuss ILO Code of Practice on
HIV/AIDS and the World of Work. Share the experience and responses
of various countries to HIV/AIDS, especially in relation to World of
Work. Discuss
various policies, programmes and strategies for care, support and
rehabilitation of HIV/AIDS affected people. Enable
the participants to appreciate their role evolve strategies for a
wider participation of social partners in the effort towards the
Prevention of HIV/AIDS in the World of Work.

laws i.e. Minimum Wages Act, Payment of Wages Act, Equal
Remuneration Act and the Payment of Bonus Act and develop
understanding of the social security legislations like Workmen’s
Compensation Act, Employees Pension Scheme 1995, and the Payment of
Gratuity Act To
understand the laws relating to Contract Labour.

Giri National Labour Institute, a premier Institute of Labour
Research, invited applications from young Teachers in Universities
and Colleges, University Scholars and Researchers from Research
Institutions, Government Departments/Organisations, who wanted to
pursue their research interest in labour studies, to participate in
the next Course on Sociological Methods in Labour Research from June
22 - July 10, 2004 named "Course on Sociological Methods in
Labour Research for University Teachers & Research
Scholars". The Course offered opportunities to the social
scientists from different disciplines to go through an interactive
exercise in conceptualizing, designing and operationalising research
pertaining to labour studies and opportunities for intensive
interface with renowned scholars/practitioners in the area of labour
studies. The Course admited 25 partcipants only. There was no
programme fee for the Course and the selected participants was
provided free boarding and lodging in the Institute’s campus.

International Training Centre of ILO - a four day training workshop
was organised on "Employment & Labour Market Policies"
from February 23-27, 2004. The workshop was Inaugurated by Dr.
S. P. Gupta, Member, Planning Commission and Valedictory address was
given by Shri Baleshwar Rai, Additional Secretary, Ministry of
Labour. The workshop provided a forum to deliberate on
important issues related to labour market and employment policies in
developing countries with special reference to India and was
attended by 22 senior level functionaries representing different
social partners. Institute's faculty and experts from ILO,
ITC, Turin acted as the key resource persons.
