Dr. S.K.
Sasikumar is an economist by training and holds a Ph.D.
degree in the discipline. His main areas of professional
interests include: labour migration, globalization and
employment, industrial relations, trade unionism and research
methods. He has 20 years of research and training experience
in the area of labour studies. He has been associated as a
Member of major National Level Commissions/Committees like
Study Group on Globalization, Second National Commission on
Labour (2002), Committee on Emigration Act, Government of
India, (2003) Committee on Emigration, Government of Kerala,
(2004), Working Group on Labour Force and Employment
Projection for the Eleventh Five Year Plan, Govt. of India
(2007-2012). He is the Editor of the journal, Labour &
Development and Associate Editor of the Indian Economic
Journal. He is the coordinator of the Centre for Labour
Market Studies and the Integrated Labour History Research Programme at the VVGNLI.
He has undertaken
several research projects on important concerns of labour
studies. Some of the recent and international level research
studies carried out include: Labour Market and Employment
Assessment: A District Level Analysis (ILO); Social Adjustment
in Globalization: The Role of Social Actors (ILO/JIL);
International Labour Migration from Independent India
(VVGNLI); Impact of Anti Tobacco Legislation on the
Livelihoods of Workers (WHO); External Migration and
Remittances (VVGNLI); Migration and Vulnerability to HIV/AIDS
(ILO); Trade Unionism and Social Challenges in a Globalizing
Economy (ILO); International Migration, Remittance Utilization
and Development (VVGNLI); Pedagogical Materials on Decent Work
(IILS); Labour Markets in India: Issues and Perspectives (ADB);
Strengthening of Labour Laws to Prevent Violations (VVGNLI);
and Youth Unemployment in India: Trends, Patterns and Policy
Options (VVGNLI). Skill Profiling and Skill Certification for
Overseas Employment (MOIA and IOM).
He has coordinated
several international and national level training programmes
on themes like: Labour Migration, Industrial Relations,
Globalisation and Labour, Research Methods, Trade Unionism,
and Skill Development. He has a number of research
publications in the form of edited books, articles in reputed
journals and research monographs. He is associated with major
professional bodies like South Asian Migration Resource
Network (as a core member), Indian Society of Labour Economics
and Indian Economic Association. |
