Dr. Shashi
Bala is working as Associate Fellow at the V.V. Giri National
Labour Institute. She has done her Ph.D. from Center for
International Trade & Development / School of International
Studies / Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She is
coordinating the Center for Gender & Labour Studies at the
Institute. She is also the Convener of Sexual Harassment
Committee at the Institute. Her areas of special interest are
Skill Development and Gender Issues. Research project carried
out by Dr. Shashi Bala Nationally and Internationally are:
Skill Development System: Micro Level Evidence; Vocational
Training for Rehabilitation of Labour : A case study of NCLP
school and MAYA ; Changing Pattern of Rural Non-Farm
Employment; Gender Issue in Korean Labour Market. Presently
she is working on Research Projects: Employment Process of
Migrant Domestic Help: A case of Tribal Women in India; and
Insecurities and Vulnerabilities of Women Working in New
Economy.
She also
coordinates training programmes on subjects like Skill
Development for the Informal Sector Worker; Orientation
Programme on Labour Issues for Women Representatives of the
NGOs of North Eastern Region; Leadership Development Programme
for Rural Women Labour leaders Organisers; Sexual Harassment
of Women at Workplace; and International training programme on
Gender Issues in labour. Besides this she also co-coordinate
the training programme on theme like International Training
Programme on Labour and Employment; Course on Research Methods
in Labour Economies jointly with Dr. S. K Sasikumar, Senior
Faculty at the Institute.
She has
presented several papers in National and International
Seminars/Workshops organized by International Training Center,
Turin; Annual Conference of India Society of Labour Economics;
V.V. Giri National Labour Institute; National Institute of
Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD);
International Management Institute (IMI); International Labour
Organization (ILO); Indian Institute of Public
Administration(IIPA);Ministry of Labour and Employment and ILO,
in Collaboration with Korea University of Technology and
Education ;Korea Labour Institute, Seoul, South Korea etc., on
themes like Skill Development for the Informal Economy ;Skill
Development Systems in India; Skill Development System : A
Grass- roots Scenario; Women Employment and Labour Process in
Agriculture with Special Reference to Women Employment;
Employment Pattern of Working Pass out Trainees:
Identification of Trainees Need; Decent Employment for Women
in India; Gender Budgeting; Policy Option for India in
National Consultation on Development of Training Policy on
India; Women Workers in Nonfarm Employment in India, Gender
Issues in Korean Labour Market etc. She has number of
research Publication in reputed Journals and books and
research studies. She is also a life member of Indian society
of Labour Economics.
