Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao

Union Minister,  Labour and Employment

 

Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Hon'ble Union Minister for Labour and Employment was born on 7th February, 1954 in village Chintamadaka, District Medak, Andhra Pradesh. He is an M.A. in Literature. He was elected from Siddipet legislative constituency for the first time in 1985 and returned elected six consecutive times. In 2004 he was elected as Member of Parliament from Karimnagar constituency, Andhra Pradesh. Before being elected as M.P. he served as Minister for Transport in Andhra Pradesh Cabinet for 3 years from 1996 to 1999. Subsequently, he also served as Deputy speaker of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from October, 1999 to April, 2001.

 

The problems of backwardness of Telengana were always in his mind, and with a view to address the problems specifically, he launched a political party known as "Telengana Rastra Samithi" (TRS) on 27th April, 2001 demanding separate statehood for Telengana.

 

He masterminded the landslide victory for the Congress and TRS alliance in Andhra Pradesh. In the process, 26 MLAs and 5 M.Ps of TRS were elected to the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly and the Parliament respectively.

 

Apart from these sterling achievements he is also known for his excellent organising abilities and political strategies.

 

He is popularly known as 'KCR' in Andhra Pradesh. He is an avid reader and is known for his concern for the common man.
